Bolt-On Boys Special: Hoonigan-Spec BRZ
The gang over at Hoonigan has done it again! NOS Energy Drink recently reached out to their team, asking them to build a car for a summer giveaway. NOS wanted it to “be cool, fun, and something that anyone can drive.” The vehicle they decided on was none other than a new, blue 2022 S16 Subaru BRZ, with the end goal of upgrading the car to their “Hoonigan Street Spec” standards in preparation for the upcoming giveaway.
When it came to mods, the “Bolt-On Boys” didn’t hold back, starting with a set of BR Series BC Racing springs with body adjustable ride height and spring silencers, ultra-light flow-formed 18”x9.5” TSW wheels wrapped in Falken RT660s, Gorilla Lugs lug nuts, Hawk rotors, a set of HPS 5.0 Performance Street Pads, SPARCO bucket seats and a K&N panel air filter. They also installed a lightweight, restarting battery from Antigravity Batteries to give the lucky sweepstakes winner some additional peace of mind.
Of course, given Hoonigan’s close relationship with MagnaFlow, we provided them with a complete cat-back performance exhaust system from our new NEO Series (#19595), which was released earlier this year. As Zac Mertens points out in the video, the system’s resonator incorporates MagnaFlow’s No Drone Technology to cancel out the unwanted droning noises that often occur at around 2,000 rpms or so.
The team also appreciated the use of racing-bred V-band clamps in the system’s design, as well as the fact that all the hardware required to install the exhaust was included in the box. The difference between the stock exhaust and the NEO Series system was night and day. Everyone was impressed by how well the system fit thanks to the extensive 3D scanning efforts we undertake during development for all MagnaFlow exhaust systems in our state-of-the-art Tech Center.
