From Stock to SEMA in 4 Days - The inside story on our Armor All Giveaway Mustang.
Last year's Armor All Giveaway sweepstakes gave the winner their choice of quite a few vehicles, and winner Clint Montgomery from Richmond, Calif., chose the new Mustang, but instead of a GT he chose a V6 convertible. To bring the performance up to snuff, and change the appearance to an acceptable street cruiser status, we called on some of the best in the biz for some help. |

Traditional Evolution - Joe Sherman's Approach to the Engine Masters Challenge
Joe Sherman has been involved in racing since his teenage years, and if you're a math wiz, you'll soon figure that 61-year-old Joe has been chasing horsepower for decades. Southern California drag racers have seen him on local strips since the late-'50s, so seeing his entry came as no surprise. |

Exhaust Every Possibility - Aftermarket cat-back system increase a vehicle's power
In the search for added profit centers for your business, don't forget to look underneath your customers' vehicles. Installing aftermarket cat-back exhaust systems - the section from the catalytic converter to the exhaust tip - can be an undiscovered gold mine of potential sales. The systems are fairly easy to install utilizing factory hangers (a vehicle lift makes it even easier), and because they attach at the catalytic converter, there are no concerns about emissions problems. And they really do provide tangible gains in power. |

To the Power of X - MagnaFlow's Tru-X Crossover Pipe for 99-02 Mustangs
Our 3g GT's exhaust modifications to this point have been limited to the Steeda side exit exhaust kit. While the kit looks awesome and has a great sound to match, our P-1SC-blown '01 needs more. If there's one thing blower cars like, it's bigger exhaust. There's no need to throw big bucks on the intake side of things right away, as the blower is forcing the air into the engine, artificially increasing the volumetric efficiency of the engine, if you will. Of course, intake-side modifications will still reap some horsepower benefits, but the exhaust side of the equation is where your money will be better spent (in street applications at least). |

Winged Creeper - Carson Lew's Rare Bel Air
To some people, Cason Lev might just have one of the world's best vocations. He "works" in the Design and Development group at Mattel and is active in the licensing end of it, too. He wanted to be a doctor and was in a pre-med program in college, but when his four years were over, he wound up designing medical equipment for a living instead. Then he had his own Cad-based prototype shop, but in 1995, his life changed forever. |

The Screaming Yellow Sleeper - The Fuelie II Chevy Never Built
There are lots of ways to build a sleeper. For most of us, the backbone of the less-is-more sleeper aesthetic involves is a series of deliberate decoys intended to lull potential prey into a false sense of security. To give the initial impression of slipshod construction and weak performance potential, we'll intentionally incorporate dents, primer spots, rusty chrome wheels, and a general aura of grunge while beneath the skin lies a highly evolved shredder. |

Budget Bora Buildup - We Built this Volkswagon for $7,500 You Can Too
In case you didn't know, we've been building up a Jetta for the last six months. This buildup had to follow two basic guidelines. First, we had to work within the constraints of a self-imposed $7,500 budget. Second, we had to turn our stock Jetta GLS VR6 into an awesome show car and daily driver, because that's what many readers want to do. It seems fairly simple, but the only reason we were able to pull it off is because we put together a game plan. |

MagnaFlow
MagnaFlow is proud to be a part of the inaugural Engine Masters Challenge. This head-to-head contest is sure to show some of the finest talent in engine building today. Readers are guaranteed to get a good idea of what it takes to squeeze the maximum performance possible from an engine. We know our straight-through muffler designs offer minimal backpressure while allowing escaping hot gases to expand. This high-flowing, low-noise design is precisely what street enthusiasts are looking for. We expect our products to be on the winning engine, and we're looking forward to writing a check to the winner. |

Better Breathing - Step by Step Exhaust Mods
...MagnaFlow offers the type of system we're talking about: a complete replacement for the factory pipes with an improved design and greater pipe diameter. Each part is designed as a modular unit so an upgrade can happen one part at a time or as a complete setup from the exhaust manifolds to the tailpipes. Each MagnaFlow part directly replaces its factory counterpart, so we were able to see the benefits at the rear wheels for each level of upgrade. |
