He then started on the new system by bolting a raw flange to each header.

He started with a 45-degree mandrel-bent section. Each pipe has to be precisely fitted, so Jason will bring each section of pipe to the car and hold it in place so that he can determine where to cut it.

A chop saw allows Jason to make clean cuts at whatever angle he needs, or at whatever position on the bent section he needs.

The initial section is flared at the end so that it will perfectly mate with the flanges Jason installed earlier.

Once trimmed to fit, each section is tacked in place. Here Jason tacks the first section to the flange on the header.

Once he is satisfied with its fit, Jason removes the flange from the header with the first section of pipe tacked to it and fully seam welds the two together.
