continues: MagnaFlow-Off!

the H-pipe loses efficiency at the H-shaped crossover, and that the design does not allow the gases to flow smoothly through the pipes to the mufflers and out the tail pipes.

After the H-pipe was removed MagnaFlow installed their off-road X-pipe that features an X-shaped crossover, which provides a more efficient flow of gases to the mufflers. Once the X-pipe was installed the car was taken to the dyno for more testing. This pipe gave the car a raspy, aggressive sound at higher rpm, but on the freeway you could carry on a conversation without having to yell over the exhaust. The car made several runs on the dyno and ended up with 242.4 horsepower and 294.0
.
ft-lbs of torque; this was a gain of 7.4 horsepower and 8 ft-lbs of torque over the H-pipe and 17.7 horsepower and 20.4 ft-lbs of torque over the stock cat pipe.

The X-pipe offers a more efficient design than the stock pipe and, arguably, the H-pipe as well. Both off-road pipes are illegal to run on the street if you live in areas where there are smog laws; but for use at the track you can't beat the off-road X-pipe. MagnaFlow will soon release their X-pipe with high-flow catalytic converters that will be smog-legal (even in California), but for those of you racing in a heads-up class and/or don't sweat the smog laws or environmental responsibility, the off-road pipe is the way to go.
