3. Jimmy unbolted the factory H-pipe.
4. Wielding the Sawsall like a giant electric turkey carving knife, Jose cut through the right side pipe approxi-mately 1.5 inches aft of the catalytic converter while Jimmy held the piping.
5. Perform the same surgery on the left side pipe. Note that the rear section of the exhaust is left in place for now. This is to ensure that all of the lengths match up when the better-flowing cross over pipe is welded up to the factory cat pipes.
6. Remove any rough edges from the sawed-off pipes.
7. Put the new Tru-X crossover pipe in place by sliding it onto the cat pipes, then sliding the bolt-on end into the rear holes. Cinch the rear nuts down on the new threads to ensure the overall length of the system is the same as before.
8. Thread the o2 sensors into their fittings on the new crossover pipe.
9. Weld the new crossover pipe to the original catalytic converter pipes.
10. Using the Sawsall again, cut the rear system behind the right muffler. This will enable you to take the exhaust off without removing the axle. Have a helper hold the muffler up to avoid stressing the newly installed cross-over pipe.
11. Cut the left muffler pipe in the same manner as before.
12. Work the factory exhaust hanger out of its rubber mount. A squirt of WD-40 works magic on all of these mounts.
13. Carefully work the pipe up and over the axle on the right side, while a friend holds up the muffler to keep the new pipes from bending. Unbolt and remove the muffler pipe.
14. Repeat step 13 for the left side. |
