Fast Fours - Part 2
Upping the Ante for More Power

In the last issue of MT, we showed you how to score some extra ponies from your stock four-banger S-10. We did that by installing an after-cat exhaust system from MagnaFlow, and we also threw a K&N Filtercharger into the mix. The new exhaust system made 9hp more and 4 lb-ft more of torque over the stock setup on our test mule.
The drop in the K&N Filtercharger did give us 1 extra horsepower, but we lost some torque after its installation. So we changed our battle plan and for this article, we went ahead and installed a full-tilt air intake system from JET Performance Products as well as an upgraded power module. The air intake will replace the restrictive stock intake piping and will force more fresh air into the motor. It also includes a new Hi-Flow filter. The power module will piggyback onto the S-10's factory computer and will adjust the engine's spark advance, air/fuel ratio, and transmission shift points for optimum performance. After the installation of these two products, our S-10 scored more power and boosted the torque specs past our previous mark. To get a glimpse at how these parts are installed, follow along with our story. To find out more about these cool products, contact the companies listed in the source box.

1. We picked up where we left off at MagnaFlow Performance's tech center with the installation of a JET Performance air intake kit. This is what the kit looks like.

2. The first step was to disassemble the old intake setup by disconnecting the wires that went to the air intake sensor.
|
3. Next, the hose that went from the PCV valve to the air intake was removed.

4. Then we disconnected the hose clamps from all of the piping.
