On August 15th, 2009 in the biggest, most important and highly anticipated fight in the history of women’s mixed martial arts, Cris Cyborg registered a brutal 4:59, first-round TKO (punches) over Gina Carano. It was the first women’s fight to ever headline a major fight card also featuring men.
BIOGRAPHY:
Cris Cyborg is an exceptional all-around athlete who was a high-level track star, Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos was discovered on the handball courts of Curitiba, Brazil by famed Chute Boxe Academy trainer Rudimar Fedrigo, who also doubles as a government official for Brazil's national sports program. After watching Cyborg, Master Rudimar became convinced that she could become a star in mixed martial arts attempted to convince her to start training at Chute Boxe. |
Cyborg was initially resistant to the idea of fighting but eventually agreed to give training a try and immediately fell in love with it. A pure athlete that possesses tremendous aggression, Cyborg looks like a natural born fighter. She is undefeated since turning pro. She is the wife of former PRIDE superstar Evangelista "Cyborg" Santos who is also a member of Chute Boxe. The Chute Boxe influence shows every time Cristiane fights, as she fights like the female version of Wanderlei Silva.
Much to the delight of many hardcore MMA fans, Cyborg has arrived in the United States after having initially competed exclusively in Brazil. There are those who believe that Cyborg could be the best pound-for-pound fighter in female MMA and the next face of female MMA.
FIGHT HISTORY: Headlined the first women's main event in MMA history and TKO'd Gina Carano for the Strikeforce 145lb. Women's Championship on August 15, 2009 at HP Pavilion at San Jose.
Recorded a unanimous decision victory over Yoko Takahashi on Oct. 4, 2008 during EliteXCs Heat event.
TKO'd (punches) Shayna Baszler at 2:48 of round 2 during EliteXC's "Unfinished Business" on July 26, 2008.
Recorded a first round TKO (corner stoppage) over Marise Vitoria at Storm Samurai 12 on November 25, 2006.
Recorded a first round TKO (corner stoppage) over Elaine Santiago at Storm Samurai 11 on May 21, 2006.
Defeated Chris Schroeder via first round TKO Storm Samurai 10 on January 28, 2006.
